Description
I live about 20 minutes away from the Vasquez Rocks National Parks in Agua Dulce, California. I live in Santa Clarita and it's a quick drive.
Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park is a 932-acre park located in the Sierra Pelona in northern Los Angeles County, California. It is known for its rock formations, the result of sedimentary layering and later seismic uplift. It is located near the town of Agua Dulce, between the cities of Santa Clarita and Palmdale
In 1874 Tiburcio Vasquez, one of California's most notorious bandits, used these rocks to elude capture by law enforcement. His name has since been associated with this geologic feature. The park is a popular hiking, picnicking, and equestrian area and has been used in many hit movies, television shows and commercials. Captain Kirk fought the Gorn here, Blazing Saddles scenes were shot here. Also the film "The Flintstones" had the town of Bedrock here several years after filming.
It's a great place to hike, the foliage and colors change seasonally. After taking several pictures over the years, I decided on this because the yucca were in bloom and you still see some of the interesting rock formations.
