During a vacation in Lake Tahoe, which is both California and Nevada, USA, I took a side trip to Virginia City, an historic mining town. Many of the buildings are still preserved and you can get a peek into the past. Outlying areas show where the mines had once been active, including this one in my painting. The town is not completely abandoned as there are many inhabited homes. But the main part of town is now devoted to tourism. Still, it's a lovely historic trip. If you're in the area, I recommend a visit.
